Pattern of Written & Oral Examination
Time to solve the written paper - 3 hours. Total marks 100
To be held on a Sunday
Q.1. Answer in complete sentences. (Questions which can not be asked
in the orals are to be asked in the written test. 10 marks
Q.2. Composition on a topic (out of three given) 10 marks
OR
Write a Dialogue on the given situation (Only one situation is given,
No Options) each person in the dialogue speaks minimum five clear,
grammatically Correct sentences. No limit on maximum number of
sentences. (Greetings and taking leave excluded.)
Q. 3. Write a letter (to parents, friend, teacher etc on the given topic.) 10 Marks
Q.4. Speech Acts (Que diriez-vous dans les situations suivantes ;
match columns ; multiple choice questions etc) 10 Marks
Q.5. Comprehension (Read the passage given and reply, in French,
to questions at the end. 15 Marks
Q.6. Question on Grammar -
Do as directed, change into negatives; make plurals, make feminine, use correct
Adjectives, pronouns, make sensible sentence from scattered parts of the
sentence, find the odd man out, match the pairs…etc 45 Marks
Note : Flexibility of 5 marks is accepted between Comprehension and Grammar. i.e.,
Comprehension may have up to 20 marks and consequently Grammar only 40 marks.
Oral Examination shall be of 100 Marks.
ORAL examination will be conducted on following five topics - @ 20 marks / topic
Dictation is to be given at a time to all ; other topics on individual basis.
Dictation – A passage will be dictated. Candidate will write that with proper use of
Punctuation marks.
A picture will be shown to the candidate which he/she shall describe in his/her own
Language based upon the vocabulary and tenses studied.
Listening comprehension – A recorded passage will be played and the candidate shall
Respond, in French, to the questions (related to that passage) put to him/her.
Reading comprehension – The candidate shall read the passage given to him/her, with
proper pronunciation and understanding. Then he/she shall reply, in French, to the
questions based on that passage.
General conversation with the examiner on a topic from amongst the topics studied
during the year. Special emphasis will be given on – use of greetings, formal/informal
means of conversation, vocabulary & correct tenses as studied during the course
