CAREER EDUCATION
OBJECTIVES:
The contents of this course will enable the students:
1) To get a comprehensive introduction to career education through historical
background.
2) To develop an understanding of the current trends and issues in career education.
3) To study decision - making and how the process applies to career planning.
4) To study the relationships among work, family and leisure.
5) To identify career issues related to special students.
6) To be able to use internet and online guidance services,
7) To overview methods of disseminating and career information, including
computer based delivery systems (internet).

UNIT I – CAREER DEVELOPMENT

- Identifying and analyzing life career themes and career talents.
- Emerging world of work careers and need for Career education.
UNIT-2 - CAREER COUNSELLING OVER THE LIFE SPAN
- Career Decision making theories- Trait and factor career Counseling, client
centered career Counseling, Psychodynamic career Counseling, Developmental
Career Counselling, Behavioral Career Counseling, Comprehensive Career
Counseling.
- Views on Career Development by Super, Tied man & O’Hara and Roe
- Relationship of career theories to career planning.
- Current trends and issues in career guidance and counseling
UNIT 3 – MELIEU ADEQUATE FOR CAREER GUIDANCE & CAREER
EDUCATION:
- Knowledge and skills in designing, implementing and monitoring career
counseling service plans.
- Psychosocial conditions of the individuals.
- Advancement of technology and survival skills.
- Problems pertaining to work, family, education and leisure.
UNIT 4 – CAREER CHOICE AND DECISION MAKING:
- Career maturity concepts and factors.
- Empowering students in career decision making ( strategies)
- Matching career talents with career decision making.
- Guidance for developing life goals and choices.
PRACTICUM / WORK BASED LEARNING: 25 Marks
1) A visit to a vocational career counseling cell. 10 Marks.
2) Preparation of a project report on requisites of a career counseling cell
Planning, organization and management aspects. 15 Marks.

SUPERVISED PRACTICUM AND INTERNSHIP

Note for Examiner and Students:
Examiner will set 9 questions, one compulsory from all the contents with four short
answer questions, 8 to be distributed evenly across the four units with internal choice of
one each. Students will attempt five questions in all.
OBJECTIVES:
The supervise practical work will train and enhance the students skills. Students should
be attached to a school / institution or an agency having a professional counselor
throughout the academic session requiring one visit per week.
1) In identifying the problems of an individual with the help of selecting,
administrating appropriate tests, interpreting the data, preparing the complete
history and profile of the case.
2) To interpret / diagnose the case problems and select an appropriate intervention
for helping the case in adjustment / development of relevant life goal and making
appropriate choice.
COURSE CONTENTS: 30 Marks
UNIT I: CASE STUDY
1. Identification of one case out of the following areas through testing and referral
- Academic problems (slow learner, learning difficulties, underachievers, gifted)
- Classroom problems (discipline/behavior)
- Mentally challenged
- Physically handicapped (visual/ auditory/ speech/ orthopedic difficulties)
2. Case preparation and analysis of the identified case.
3. Intervention- Use of appropriate guidance/ counseling strategies.
4. Written report of the case
UNIT II- CAREER CONFERENCE 15 Marks
1. Planning and organizing career conference and career exhibitions
UNIT III-INTERNSHIP & REPORT PRESENTATION 30 Marks
The course has an input of two week’s internship programme. Trainees are required to
have an attachment with a school, an institution or an agency under an experienced
counselor for the stipulated period. During the period of internship, the trainees would
observe, analyze critically and report live sessions of counseling with the counselor (at
least three cases: one each in career, educational and emotional counseling.)
