    SYLLABUS OF POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN COMPUTER EDUCATION OF PUNJAB UNIVERSITY, CHANDIGARH

    POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN COMPUTER EDUCATION
    (TEACHER EDUCATION)
    PROPOSED RULES
    1.1 Any graduate with at least 45% marks in aggregate is eligible for
    admission.
    2.1 The duration of the course shall be one year from July/August to
    May/June every academic year.
    2.2 An examination shall be held at the end of academic year at such
    places and on such dates as may be decided by the university.
    2.3 There shall be eight papers and school experience programme.
    2.4 The dates by which the admission forms and fees for examination
    must reach the Registrar shall be decided by the University.
    2.5 Three days of grace may be allowed after the last date without late
    fee for the receipt of admission forms and fees.
    2.6 The medium of Instruction and examination shall be English.
    2.7 The examination shall be held on according to syllabi and courses of
    reading recommended by the Board of Studies, Panjab University
    and approved by its appropriate bodies.
    2.8 The results shall be declared by the Registrar as soon as possible
    after the Completion of examination.
    2.9 Each successful candidate shall receive diplomas issued by the
    University stating marks and division.
    The minimum pass marks shall be 35% separately for theory
    and practical in each paper. The successful candidates shall be
    placed in the following divisions:
    A. Those who obtain 75% or more First division with
    Distinction
    B. Those who obtain 60% more but less than First division 75% marks
    C Those who obtain 50% or more but less than 60 % Marks Second
    division.
    D Those who obtained less than 50% of the total marks Third
    division.
    2.10 Two additional consecutive chances may be given to a candidate to
    clear this examination, i.e. one in September and second in April
    (Along with regular candidates).

    2.11 The examination shall be open to a student who is eligible as laid
    down in ordinance 1.1 and has his name sent up by the Principal
    concerned with the following certificates:-
    a) of having been enrolled in the college for the academic year
    preceding the examination.
    b) of good moral character.
    c) of having attended 75% of the lectures delivered.
    2.12 The Principal of the college concerned shall have the power to
    condone in lectures in each paper up to 10% of the total number of
    Lectures delivered.
    2.13 A candidate who has attended the prescribed number of Lectures,
    does not appear in the examination or having appeared has failed or
    has been placed under reappear in one or more paper/s may be
    allowed to appear as an ex-student on the recommendation of the
    Principal concerned. In such cases, the candidates shall be
    examined as per the course outlines in force at that time.

    2.14 There shall be an examiner for each paper to be appointed by the
    University on the recommendation of the Board of Studies in
    Computer Science. The question paper shall be set by the examiner
    and answer books evaluated by him as per the University suggests.
    2.15 The Diploma shall be awarded on the successful completion/
    evaluation of theory and practical papers and school experience
    programme .
    Note:-The ordinances are subject to the addition/ amendments
    approved by the competent authority.
    Instructions for the evaluation
    1. There shall be Five Theory and Two Practical Papers, One Project
    Report and school experience programme of 30 days. Each Theory
    paper will be of 3 hours duration.
    2. All theory and practical papers will be each of 75 Marks. In each
    practical paper, a separate 15 Marks will be based on performance
    of students (Internal).
    3. Each paper will be divided in to 4 Units. Question Papyr will have 5
    units-Unit-! will be compulsory consisting of short-answer type
    question from the whole syllabi. Other units will be as per unitised

    course. Examiner will set 2 questions from each unit with internal
    choice.
    4. The students will be asked to attempt 5 questions selecting one
    question from each unit. Each question will carry 15 Marks.
    5. Project Report based on School Experience programme will be
    evaluated by an external examiner, appointed by the university.

    UNIT- II
    Connecting devices to computers - Expansion slots, adapter boards,
    serial/ parallel I/O ports (SCSI) Problem analysis: Flow Charts, Algorithms,
    decision tables. Types of Softwares, Translators (Compiler, Interpreter,
    Assembler), Introduction to Data Communication and Network. Number
    System, Computer Arithmetic, LAN, WAN MAN and trouble shooting.
    UNIT-III
    Introduction to Windows XP: Parts of Window Screen (Desktop,
    Window, Icons), Start Menu, Task Bar Settings, Application and Document
    Window, Anatomy of a Window (Title Bar, Minimize Maximize Buttons,
    Control Box, Scroll Bars, Scroll Buttons, Scroll Boxes). Window Explorer
    (Expansion, Collapsing of a Directory Tree, Copying, Moving, Deleting
    Files, Folder, Creating Folders), about Desktop Icons (Recycle Bin, My
    Computer, Network Neighborhood, Briefcase), Folder, Shortcut creation,

    Introduction to Operating System: Meaning of Operating System, its
    functions, batch system, real system, multi programming, multi tasking,
    single- multi user system. Memory Management Techniques, Process
    Management, Device Management, File Management Techniques. Basic
    Internal / External Commands of DOS.

    PROJECT REPORT
    Project report of 75 marks assigned by the subject teacher during
    school experience programme will be prepared by every student under the
    supervision & guidance of concerned teacher. Title contents of the project
    will be base;! on paper - 2 (Computer -Aided Teaching) or any other
    related area. The Viva - Voce of Project report will be conducted by an
    external examiner to be appointed by the university. Project report based
    on Full chapter of any CBSE/PSEB Class (Power Point Presentation /
    Animated / Website) shall be submitted by student 10 which will be
    evaluated by external examiner.

    Theme: Creating your own theme, selecting a color scheme,
    selecting graphics, selecting text, normal page, confirming page, feedback
    form, Guest book, one column body, search page, two column body, three
    column body.
    Forms: Creating form using wizards, adding text boxes, adding
    radio buttons, adding check box, adding drop-down menus, adding push
    buttons & pictures. Web page designation for online lessons.
